SD cards refer to Secure Digital memory cards, which are essentially external storage devices that are enjoying widespread popularity nowadays. Meanwhile SDHC cards are Secure Digital High Capacity cards which essentially perform the same functions as that of an SD card, with minor variations. For one, as indicated in its name, SDHC cards have higher storage capacity if compared to typical SD cards that can only store up to 4 GB of data. SDHC cards, on the other hand, have the capacity to store up to an amazing 32 GB, making it perfect for computer users who require tons of storage space.

Another main difference between the SD and the SDHC card lies in the system that each one uses in order to store data. SD cards make use of the classic FAT32 system, while SDHC cards are usually equipped with sector addressing features that enable it to store files that are much larger in size. It is also for this reason that an SDHC card needs its own separate card reader, different from a typical SD card reader. However, an SD card will work just fine with an SDHC reader.
