Gary Kovacs named as Mozilla New CEO

The internet browser giant Mozilla on Thursday named its new Chief Executive as the company is getting ready for a battle of internet browsers all over. Gary Kovacs who in the past had been working as a senior vice president at a company named Sybase will now be working as new CEO of Mozilla. Mozilla in a blog post announcing the formal appointment of Gary said that the new CEO will lead the overall direction of Mozilla organization and its flagship products, including the most popular Firefox web browser.

John Lilly, the outgoing Mozilla chief executive also commented in a blog post that Kovacs had a very keen interest and experience in the battlefields of the internet, and no doubt these battlefields will define the future of open web platforms, rich media contents and mobile.

According to the blog post, it will now be Kovac’s Job to keep Firefox position in the internet browser markets as it is getting more competitive with each passing day. According to a survey by Net Applications, Microsoft’s popular Internet Explorer is still in the commanding and dominating position with a huge market share crossing 59.7 percent. And, the latest IE version 9 according to the analysts will give Microsoft a chance to establish its footing in the market. The latest IE9 is out in the beta version. At present search giant Google’s browser Chrome has a total of 8 percent share in the market and controls almost a small percentage, but analysts are saying that it is catching up quick on Mozilla Firefox that has a 23 percent share in the market. The next major update and release by Mozilla will be Firefox 4 that is due to be released by the end of this year.

So, if we see the resume of Kovacs, it is pretty impressive. Besides being an executive at SyBase, he also has been the general manager and also the vice president of mobile and devices in Adobe Systems. He also worked as a marketing executive at macromedia; he has also been part of computing giants IBM where he worked in the IBM’s global software division.

Mozilla has been looking for a new CEO from quite a while and it seems that Gary is a good selection. In May, this year, chairman of Mozilla Mitchell Baker announced that John Lilly will resign after a few days. Mozilla is also planning to hold a series of conferences and events worldover, so that the developers can interact with company’s new CEO and plan for the future improvements.
