Those of you flattered by Windows 7 will be in for a surprise to know that Microsoft has some years to go till it makes this version available on tablets. Though true to its USP, Microsoft is always ready to brush its skills on inventions and intends to make Windows 7 run better with smaller OS that runs better on tablets.
Some apprehensions still surround the conversion of PC windows 7 version into an efficient table runner. The reason is that Windows 7 for PC was designed by an alley of 2000 experts to give way to 500 million lines of codes to finally devise this ingenious program. It involved tremendous amount of mental labor and physical testing.
An Android is composed of just over 12 million lines of codes toning down the Windows 7 to this level requires a cut down of 76% of codes. Understandably a mobile device does not require many of the PC driver codes functions, but it still is a huge cut to retain the originality of this program. Also the x86 processors by used by windows 7 run on very fast Atom processors which beat phones processing. Hence a massive cut-down makes a smooth functioning appear vague. Furthermore, Atom also requires more power and consequently heats up the battery which means Windows 7 tablets need to accommodate larger batteries with a lower battery life.
Microsoft has a Windows Compact Embedded 7 in its wings to be offered to tablet makers with an OS which is similar to yet advanced than Windows Phone 7. The slack comes from consumer ignorance to OS functionality. They don’t want the gory technical details for comparisons. Hence, just before the announced release of its Eee pads Asus went for Google OS instead.
There can be some ideas as to why Microsoft is holding back a Windows Phone 7 release on tablets.
Firstly, the response to Windows Phone 7 release has been overwhelming with huge appreciation from many Linux/Apple fans. It wants to capitalize on this reception. Secondly, unlike its intimidating competitors like Google or Apple Microsoft likes to walk through slowly and steadily to a new inventions making sure that rate of return. Since the tablet market (13 million) is still budding compared to the humungous PC market (357 million), Microsoft deems it appropriate to wait for the right time.
Thirdly, Microsoft is increasing its liaison with Intel which is working hard to upgrade Atom to the engineering power of ARM. This means when Windows 7 is launched it would be competitive with Android/ iOS as far as the Arm chips go.
Fourthly, Microsoft Senior VP, Steven Sinofsky, who cleared up much of the Vista mess and disciplined the Windows development team, owns a good political capital. This enables him to convince to convince the directors to accredit the release of Windows 7 phones to his team.
Finally learning from its earlier main mistakes at Vista and Xbox Microsoft is trying its level best to achieve and deliver more than promised. It plans to make use of robots that ensure quality delivery of Windows Phone 7 by its manufacturing partners.
